New London Visit with Carol Dana

As part of their 2021 Literary Art Series, the Center pour les ARTS Literary Arts Guild will welcome Penobscot elder Carol Dana on a virtual tour on June 15 at 5 p.m. Born and raised in Maine, Carol shares stories from her life, her work, and her writing. Carol has devoted years to the revitalization of the Penobscot language, working on the Penobscot dictionary project in the 1980s and teaching Penobscot at the Indian Island School in the 1990s. Carol also worked in the Department of Cultural and Historical Preservation of the Penobscot Nation, as a linguistic contact. Carol is the author of two books of poetry, When no one is watching and Return to Spirit and other musings, both published by Bowman Books. Dawnland Voices 2.0 an online journal devoted to Native New England and Northeast writing says of Carol and her poems: “Carol is highly respected in Maine for her work on revitalizing and educating the language of Penobscot. Perhaps because language is so important to her, she has a wonderful sense of sound, often smoothing out native words, place names, and last names in her lines. This program is co-presented by the Literary Arts Guild of the Center for the Arts, Lake Sunapee area, the Mount Kearsarge Indian Museum and the Newbury Public Library. Wolfeboro Car show

Expect to see beautiful vintage vehicles that will promise a little car craving, at the premier Wolfeboro Lions Club Car Show on July 3 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Nick, 10 Trotting Track Road, Wolfeboro. Free and open to the public, the organizers invite classic car owners to showcase their vehicles from 1975 and older in a fun, non-judgmental, no-lesson show. This is a show and shine event. Registration is not required, however, those wishing to enter a vehicle must arrive before 10:30 am for placement. Concessions will be available for purchase as well as a 50/50 raffle to benefit the Lions Club Charitable Fund. Donations are graciously accepted. The 2021 New Hampshire Jewish Food Festival continues with its virtual 2020 format, but with a significantly expanded menu and a few more surprises. The talented culinary teams of Temple B’nai Israel will cook and cook in the temple kitchen, preparing hundreds of servings of the most delicious foods and making the most popular desserts.
