Tapas and Thai cocktails heading to Spinningfields

Giggling Squid will soon open its first Northern venue in the city center …

They started life in the basement of their little fisherman’s house in Brighton in 2002, Laughing squids expanded massively over the next 20 years, but never reached further north than Nottingham. Until now.

With over 40 restaurants now spread across London, Bristol and the Midlands, Giggling Squid is coming to Spinningfields in 2022, right on Hardman Square across from The Ivy.

The initial idea was to offer “simple, rustic and fresh thai food”With lots of dishes that everyone shares – just like in Thailand. Owner Pranee grew up on the banks of the Mekong River, visiting local markets with her mother every day at 5 a.m.

She would see “huge fish splashing in pools of water, transparent shrimp, an endless variety of herbs and vegetables …” and so Giggling Squid’s recipes and dishes incorporate this abundance of natural ingredients and flavors. .

There is an extensive menu of STARTERS which are perfect for sharing – Phuket mussels (£ 6.95), Zingy prawns from Samui (£ 6.95), Mah Kwan Pepper Pork Belly (£ 6.50) plus all classics – Spring Rolls (£ 5.95), Salt & Pepper Squid (£ 7.50) and Chicken Satay (£ 6.50).

There is also a huge selection of PAD THAI dishes, as well as the MAIN ones divided into “Stir Fry”, “From the Water” and “From the Land”.

Giggling Squid also offers a diverse range of COCKTAILS, many with a distinctive Thai twist. there is the Thai-spresso Martini (£ 8.50) with coconut coffee liqueur and toasted coconut flakes, and the me time margarita (£ 9.25) which has been mixed with ginger and lemongrass and comes with a rim of curry and salt.
