FDA launches Pfizer approval process

Pfizer Thailand has submitted an application for home use of its Covid-19 vaccine to the Thai Food and Drug Administration (FDA), while the Chulabhorn Royal Academy (CRA) plans to roll out its own private vaccine offering from Sinopharm on June 25. .

Paisal Dunkhum, secretary general of the FDA, said the agency received the request from Pfizer Thailand and the review process is underway.

On Thursday, the government announced that it had approved an order for 20 million doses of Pfizer’s coronavirus vaccine to be imported in the fourth quarter.

Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said Pfizer vaccines will be given to students because the vaccine is safe for anyone aged 12 and over.

He said that the Department of Disease Control (DDC) will develop the vaccination plan for this population group and that students are likely to receive their vaccines in schools.

He added that the government has purchased enough doses for this year’s vaccination campaign and is preparing to purchase more for next year.

Mr Anutin also said the AstraZeneca vaccine will be delivered as scheduled and the company has not breached its contract following reports that the company postponed a delivery scheduled for June 14 by two more days.

Meanwhile, CRA deputy secretary general Dr Santi Srisermphok said Sinopharm’s first batch of vaccine is expected to arrive on June 20 and public inoculations will begin on June 25.

He said an inspection process should take two days, followed by two days of distribution.

Phumin Silapan, deputy director of Chulabhorn Hospital, said each vaccination station will receive at least 100 doses of Sinopharm vaccine.

Dr Phumin added that they will be delivered daily for those in Bangkok and surrounding provinces.

Nipapan Saendamrong, chief of insurance and medical expenses attached to the ARC, said beneficiaries who suffer from acute side effects leading to coma will receive one million baht in compensation and up to 30,000 baht for the expenses. medical.

The ARC, which is licensed to procure the vaccine from Sinopharm as an alternative vaccine, has set the price at 888 baht per dose, including transportation, storage and side effects insurance, but not service and medical charges.
